Heartland Heritage: Wandering Home From Work

20150512-DSC_0036

I wandered my way home from work one night looking to find a barn that I often see from the toll road. This barn caught my attention that night. I had a hard time capturing the large structure as I was seeing it. It just doesn’t seem quite right.

There is a rather lard hole almost centered in the photo. It is possible that this is what doesn’t look right. I’m not sure what it is that is off. Feel free to leave your thoughts. Enjoy the weekend!

MM 2-12

MM 2-12When I took this photograph I was very hopeful that it would work well in B&W. This bunch of wildflowers was in the shade of the forest canopy so I tried using my pop-up flash to give some highlights. As you can see it made the veins in the flower petals stand out a little more.

Each week entrants from all over the world send in their amazing monochrome images. You will find the entire collection for this week’s Monochrome Madness on Leanne Cole’s blog later today. If you would like to participate in MM you will also find the directions for doing so at the end of Leanne’s weekly post.

Looks Like April’s Showers Brought May Flowers

MayFlowers_0054

I took this photograph this morning while on a 3 mile hike with my four legged pal Lemmy. It was a beautiful day for the walk, I want to go further but not sure Lemmy was up for much more. He’s been sleeping since we got back.

I received an email from a fellow blogger yesterday and it made me realize that I have been a bit rude over the last few weeks. I took on a new job and have been very busy. That and the cool and damp spring weather haven’t left much time for me to get out and take photos. I want to apologize to all of my followers for not let you all know what was going on.

That being said the days are a bit longer and things are starting to settle down. I still have about 60 days or so left on my initial contract. Things are looking good and I believe both parties are happy. I still have much to learn to prove that I belong there long term. Some things that should probably have been learned long ago, such as typing.

Starting today there will be more of a presence from me here. It may not be the 5 to 6 post a week that I was putting out before but I think that I can get in at least 2 maybe up to 4 per week. Including rejoining Monochrome Madness, that Leanne Cole hosts each week, and my own Heartland Heritage weekly Friday post.

I do want you to know that I have had a little time to peek at word-press on my phone, but not as much as I would have liked. There may also be some tutorials in the works. The company that I work for uses the word-press platform for all of the sites that we design and up keep. I look foreword to sharing some tips with you all in the future.

I’ve rambled on long enough. Enjoy your weekend.

Monochrome Madness 2-8

James Keegan MM 2-8

The trees are finally waking from their long winter slumber. It was easy for me to choose this photograph for this week’s MM. The new leaves have many tones that tend to show well in B&W.

Blue-winged Teal

blue-winged teal_0081

I came across this Blue-winged Teal during my last visit to Deer Run Forest Preserve. I’m not sure if they are new to this area or if my previous unaware self just never saw them. I have another species that is a new to me species that I will share later in the week. Off to work I go. Enjoy!

Earth Day 2015

Plant Growing After Spring Burn Off_0052Today is the 45th anniversary of Earth Day. I share this image of a plant growing back after the spring burn off at one of my local forest preserves. I don’t share quotes very often, but I thought this was a great one for today.

“Keep close to Nature’s heart … and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.” — John Muir

Milkweed Seed in the Wind

Milkweed Seed in the Wind_0013

I know it’s late in the day but I had a spare minute. So here is a photo I took Saturday. The wind was blowing quite a bit making it difficult to get any decent shots of the local birds. This milkweed seed trying to hang on to the pod caught my eye.

I will apologize ahead of time for the short time between post. I leave very early in the morning for work, so I scheduled a post for tomorrow morning as well. Enjoy!
